Cultural and Creative Industries Mapping

Mapping Aruba’s Cultural and Creative Industries

Project Overview

Go Cultura Foundation is undertaking a comprehensive project to map Aruba’s Cultural and Creative Industries. This initiative, initiated in 2021 and currently in execution, aims to provide a detailed understanding of the sector’s landscape, identifying key players, challenges, and opportunities for growth.

Project Approach and Timeline

Adopting a bottom-up approach, the foundation has engaged directly with stakeholders within the cultural and creative industries. This participatory method ensures that the mapping process is grounded in the lived experiences and perspectives of those working within the sector.

Following extensive research and fundraising efforts, the project’s first phase – a comprehensive survey – was launched in April 2024. This data collection process is anticipated to take approximately a year and a half to complete, providing a robust foundation for subsequent analysis and recommendations.

Importance of Mapping Aruba’s Cultural and Creative Industries

The mapping of Aruba’s cultural and creative industries is crucial for several reasons:

  • Sector Development: A detailed understanding of the sector’s structure, strengths, and weaknesses is essential for informed policymaking and targeted support initiatives.
  • Economic Impact: By documenting the economic contributions of the cultural and creative industries, the foundation aims to highlight their significance to Aruba’s overall economy.
  • Cultural Preservation: Mapping the sector helps to identify and preserve cultural heritage, ensuring that Aruba’s unique identity is maintained and celebrated.
  • International Collaboration: A comprehensive understanding of the local cultural and creative industries can facilitate international collaborations and partnerships, fostering cultural exchange and economic opportunities.

By undertaking this comprehensive mapping project, the Go Cultura Foundation seeks to contribute to the sustainable growth and development of Aruba’s cultural and creative industries, strengthening the island’s cultural identity and economic vitality.
